The EU-funded data innovation hub MediaFutures has opened the application phase for its third and final accelerator and residency programme. Until 30 August 2022, Startups, SMEs, artists, and groups of individuals can submit innovative, creative and impactful ideas that address online misinformation and disinformation. Successful applicants will receive funding of up to 80,000 euros, mentoring, and training.

Between 2020 and 2023, MediaFutures supports 51 start-ups and SMEs and 43 artists with a total of 2.5 million euros. Funding is provided for developing new ideas in quality journalism, transparency, democracy, and science communication that counteract the negative effects of misinformation and disinformation in society. Participants can work with available datasets or their own data and respond to current issues, media reports, or questions about media freedom and accuracy.

MediaFutures has three programme tracks:

1. Artists for Media – a six-month residency programme for artists with an innovative approach to exploring data and technology and their impact on individuals and society.
2. Start-ups for Citizens – a six-month accelerator programme for start-ups developing a product or service for meaningful engagement with media content.
3. Start-up meets Artist – a six-month blended residency and accelerator programme for teams of start-ups and artists to co-create new ideas in data technology and the arts.
