Big Data Value Association
In 2016, the L3S Research Center joined the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) as an associate member and participates in its activities and events. The Big Data Value Association is a non-profit organisation formed as private counterpart to the EU Commission (EC) to implement the BDV PPP programme (Big Data Value PPP) jointly with the EC. The BDVA aims at boosting European Big Data Value research, development and innovation and fostering a positive perception of Big Data Value.
In addition, the L3S has joined the European Network of National Big Data Centers of Excellence, a BDVA-affiliated network currently comprising approximately 30 European organisations active in Big Data research and practice.
CLAIRE is an initiative by the European AI community that seeks to strengthen European excellence in AI research and innovation. To achieve this, CLAIRE proposes the establishment of a pan-European Confederation of Laboratories for Artificial Intelligence Research in Europe.
ELLIS – the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems
Several L3S members are members of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS). ELLIS is a pan-European association of top scientists with the aim of further strengthening machine learning as a driver for modern AI in Europe. The focus of the network is on basic research, innovation and societal impact.
International Data Spaces Association
With the establishment of the International Data Spaces Association, business and research take an active part in designing a trustworthy architecture for the data economy. The IDSA aims to guarantee data sovereignty by an open, vendor-independent architecture for a peer-to-peer network which provides usage control of data from all domains.
Web Science Network of Laboratories (WSTNet)
Since 2011, L3S has been a member of WSTNet, an international network of world-class research laboratories to support Web Science research and education. WSTNet combines some of the world’s leading academic researchers in Web Science with new academic programmes that will enhance the already growing influence of Web Science. Contributions from the labs will include the organization and hosting of summer schools, workshops, and meetings, including the WebSci conference series.
Leibniz Research Alliance Science 2.0
Since November 2013, L3S Research Center has been member of the Leibniz Research Alliance Science 2.0, a group of notable institutes and organizations that investigates how the Web changes science and scientific publication processes. Science 2.0 is increasingly shaping science through new forms of participation, communication, collaboration, and open discourse in research and publication processes. Due to its expertise in the analysis and design of the complex interplay of technology, humans and information in the Web, L3S deals with research questions regarding science and scientists in the Social Web and Linked Data for science.
