The interactive 2024 annual report of the Center for Digital Innovations Lower Saxony (ZDIN) offers exciting insights into the work of its seven Future Labs. The L3S Research Center coordinates the “Society and Work” Future Lab and also contributes to the “Production” and “Health” labs. Researchers at L3S are working on topics such as AI attacks (How well do humans recognise manipulated images?), AI for speech and image recognition, as well as predictive analysis of wear-induced shape deviations in industrial manufacturing.
In total, 36 research institutions from Lower Saxony – including L3S – are collaborating with 126 industry partners to develop ideas for a digital future. The success of this collaboration is reflected in the numbers: in 2024 alone, researchers published 130 scientific papers and gave 110 presentations at national and international conferences. In addition, they secured more than 42 million euros in funding for new digitalization projects.
Lower Saxony’s Minister of Science, Falko Mohrs, praised the initiative:
“ZDIN is a prime example of how collaboration between science, industry, and society in Lower Saxony can create synergies and drive innovation. The research results are impressive and have the potential to significantly shape the region’s future.”
ZDIN is currently preparing the launch of new transfer projects that, starting mid-2025, will build on the outcomes of the Future Labs and further strengthen the exchange with practical applications.
