The digital transformation brings with it sociological, political, ethical and legal challenges that ultimately affect not only our society, but global relevance. Research in this area must therefore be responsible, that is to say both to reflect social needs and to explore and evaluate possible effects on personal freedom of movement, democratic principles and social interaction. The aim of the L3S is to analyze legal and ethical framework conditions, to identify the need for regulatory action and to develop options for action. In this way, research can already take into account legal implications during development and at the same time act as a catalyst for politics, society and the economy.
