We are proud to announce that the NoBIAS Project has been selected in the initial selection of projects to be presented in the European Research Executive Agency (REA) “AI” page.

The EU is regulating AI as part of its digital strategy to ensure better conditions for the development and use of this technology. The AI Act, the world’s first comprehensive AI law, will govern the use of artificial intelligence in the EU. It seeks to make AI development more secure, transparent, traceable, non-discriminatory, environmentally friendly, and innovative. The AI Act, in conjunction with the Coordinated Plan on AI, outlines the European approach to AI while also contributing to the European Green Deal.

AI in EU-funded Projects

Since 2014, the number of AI-related projects managed by the European Research Executive Agency (REA) has increased year after year. REA now manages over 1,000 projects with an AI focus or that use AI tools. Over €1.7 billion in EU funding was awarded to the projects through the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programs. One of these projects is the NoBIAS Project, which is coordinated by the L3S.

Biases can occur at any stage of the AI-based decision-making process, including data collection, algorithms, and the use of results. The core objective of NoBIAS is to research and develop novel methods for data-driven decision-making without bias. It has now been listed among the EU-funded projects shifting the paradigm.
