The L3S recently held its annual three-day Research Retreat, bringing together researchers from all groups to share ideas, discuss current projects, and identify future research directions.
The programme featured a mix of talks, workshops, and group sessions covering a wide range of topics including discussions on tool use in large language models, neuro-symbolic AI on knowledge graphs, interpretable modelling of single-cell data, quantum computing tools, and innovations in AR/VR technologies. Participants also explored practical developments such as building an internal L3S chatbot and optimising administrative processes through federated learning approaches.
The L3S Fair of Ideas provided an open forum for researchers to present their ongoing work and plans in an open forum, encouraging dialogue and collaboration across disciplines. Informal exchanges during shared dinners further strengthened connections within the research community.
The retreat highlighted the diversity of research taking place at L3S and the value of exchange across teams and topics. The L3S will continue these collaborative efforts in the year ahead, advancing research in AI, data science, and digital transformation.

The Retreat took place in October 2025 at the Serengeti Park Hotel in Hodenhagen/Lower Saxony.
