InclusiveOCW opens new professional perspectives to visually impaired people through digitally supported learning by interactive collaboration scenarios, crowdsourcing, internationalization and ubiquitous, accessible educational materials. The TIB contributes to the project by developing a system which automatically generates image descriptions which will allow visually impaired users to autonomously assess visual contents. The methodology will include detection and analysis of image types commonly used in didactic materials (such as photos, schemas and diagrams). 

Die Inspektion von Rohrleitungssystemen erfolgt heutzutage unter Einsatz von Inline-Inspektionswerkzeugen, welche im laufenden Betrieb durch die Rohrleitung geschleust werden können. Dabei entsteht eine Fülle von Sensordaten, deren manuelle Auswertung derzeit mit einem hohen personellen und zeitlichen Aufwand verbunden ist. Um diese Kosten zu reduzieren, soweit möglich die Genauigkeit der Auswertung zu verbessern und somit die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit enorm zu steigern, sollen Teile der Verarbeitungskette durch Einsatz von modernen Methoden des maschinellen Lernens automatisiert werden.

The interdisciplinary project SALIENT researches methods to detect learning intents and aims at improving retrieval performance accordingly during multimodal (learning-related) Web search.

The aim of the AMA project is s to build up the Applied Machine Learning Academy (AMA) based on a sustainable, flexible and applied qualification concept. AMA will offer a rich portfolio of ML learning units - covering courses as well as labs for hands-on experiences - and an expertise sharing network. The focus will be on foundational ML competences on ML competences for the application domain intelligent production (Industry 4.0). An active dialog with Industry and SMEs will ensure a demand-driven traning portfolio.

Answering Questions using Web Data

WDAqua is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN).

Smart infrastructures and citizens’ participation in the digital society are increasingly data-driven. Sharing, connecting, managing, analysing and understanding data on the web will enable better services for citizens, communities and industry. However, turning web data into successful services for the public and private sector requires skilled web and data scientists as well as further research in the field.

IASiS is an EU funded project that seeks to pave the way for precision medicine approaches by utilising insights from patient data. It aims to combine information from medical records, imaging databases and genomics data to enable more personalised diagnosis and treatment approaches in two disease areas – lung cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
