In this project, we develop in close collaboration with VST GmbH (Saalfeld, Thuringia) the system FaAM: Fully-automated Alpha Matting for portait photography. To date, alpha masks of (humans in) portrait photos cannot be automatically generated in highest quality in general and normally time-consuming manual post-processing steps are required. To overcome this drawback, a hybrid algorithm will be developed that leverages conventional approaches as well as 3D image acquisition.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (January 2017 –  August 2018).
