In Lower Saxony, the networked digitization research has begun. The Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture provides around 22 million euros for six future laboratories and the establishment of a directorate of the Zentrum für digitale Innovationen Niedersachsen (ZDIN). L3S Director Professor Wolfgang Nejdl is spokesman for the Zukunftslabor Gesellschaft & Arbeit which deals with the consequences of digitization for the work environment, the organization of work and the society. On December 10, 2019, the partners involved in the future laboratory met for a joint kick-off event at L3S. In the future laboratories, Lower Saxony scientists from research institutions and universities develop practical ideas for application-oriented research projects, which they then work on together. The goal is technological innovations. The thematic focus of the digitization laboratories is - in addition to society & work - agriculture, energy, health, mobility and production. L3S scientists are involved in five future laboratories.
