Rund 40 Studierende aus aller Welt nahmen an der WSTNET Web Science Summer School teil, die vom 30. Juli bis zum 4. August 2018 am L3S stattfand. Die Teilnehmer profitierten von einem umfangreichen und vielfältigen Programm.
Around 40 students from different parts of the world attended the WSTNET Web Science Summer School held at L3S Research Center, Leibniz University of Hannover, from 30.07.18 to 04.08.18. Students benefited from a rich programme that combined a thematically diverse set of inspiring keynote talks, detailed tutorials, lectures and group work.
Web Science is the emergent study of the people and technologies, applications, processes and practices that shape and are shaped by the World Wide Web. Web Science aims to draw together theories, methods and findings from across academic disciplines, and to collaborate with industry, business, government and civil society, to develop our knowledge and understanding of the Web: the largest socio-technical infrastructure in human history.
Notable themes of the Summer School included Data Science, Web Mining & Information Extraction, Social Web & Online Learning, Web-scale Crowdsourcing & Human Computation, Big Data & Web Semantics, Web & Society. An entertaining social program including a social dinner and a BBQ evening, ensured a lively balance between work an play throughout the week.
The summer school ended with interesting group presentations from students that showcased some of the learnings which took place through the course of the week. Sincere thanks are given to the sponsors of the summer school without whom the great success of WWSSS'18 would not have been possible!
