I have played the piano ever since the tender age of seven. After a while I became bored with
those 'stupid' sonatinas that were part of the regular piano education program. My piano teacher
decided to switch my attention to ragtimes and boogie and blues. This is how I started
improvising on the piano and making my own compositions.
Fortunately, I got a new piano teacher when I was eleven. Gradually, he reintroduced me into
the 'classical music scene'. Now, I am fortunate to be able to play both classical and modern
music.
When I came to the University of Twente, it didn't take much time before I was involved in all kinds of musical activities. I started to sing in a close harmony choir, was cofounder of the University's piano club Utopiano. After I returned to the University after my internship period and master's project, I joined a different choir: the Drienerloos Vocaal Ensemble.
After my move to Hannover in 2006, I soon joined the choir Capella St. Crucis. This choir is well-known for its balanced sound and its vivid performances. The Capella has specialized in religious music by German composers. In 2007, the choir booked success with the performance of Händel's Messiah. Further, I regularly perform together with my friend, opera tenor Kristof Schliep. Together we have a theatre program with German songs from the 1920s till 1940, called "Die Nacht ist nicht allein zum Schlafen da...". We also regularly perform with more classical repertoire and participate in the vaudeville group Fette Schnecke.
