The City of Hannover is receiving funding of 100,000 euros from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) for the "5G Access to Public Spaces" (5GAPS) concept. The L3S is part of the project team. Other members are Deutsche Messe AG, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, HaCon Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, hannoverimpuls GmbH and the Institute for Cartography and Geoinformatics of LUH.
The objectives of the project are the efficient use, intelligent administration and management of public areas in the frequently used urban space as well as the testing of new business models in transport and logistics using 5G technology. Deutsche Messe AG will make its exhibition grounds available as a test site for this purpose. The L3S will contribute to the project with solutions based on artificial intelligence and machine learning, including the detection of space conditions, forecasting space occupancy and spatial planning.
